A Note About Comfrey

Although an extremely healing herb, recognized for its incredible powers in healing irritated, inflamed or damaged tissue, comfrey has recently come under fire because it contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are toxic to the liver.

Despite the fact that it has been consumed for centuries with very little evidence of toxicity, many medical authorities believe that it is not safe for internal consumption or for use on broken skin.

Most herbalists believe that these restrictions are off the mark. However, because pregnant and nursing women and children under the age of one are very sensitive to these alkaloids, Sacred Circle Herbs recommends that they NOT use either the Green Witch Body Balm or the Earthly Emollient Body Balm, both of which contain comfrey.
